There’s a rule in European roulette called "En Prison". This allows the gambler, if the zero is hit, to either surrender one half of their outside wagers or to keep them for the next game. This rule drops the casino advantage even lower, lowering it to 1.352 as opposed to the five point two six available inside the American game, thus making the European game slightly more alluring.

At the end of the day, it is up to the gambler to decide regardless of whether he / she wants to go for the more secure wager with European Roulette or if he favors the excitement of the more high-risk American Roulette…
